ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
ISO 14001 is the international standard that sets out the requirements of an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). This standard is intended to provide an agreed framework for organisations to utilise in addressing and managing their environmental responsibilities.
An Environmental Management System may involve policies and outcomes for an organisation or operation at large, or be project specific.
Outcomes of an EMS can include:
- setting, monitoring and enhancing environmental goals
- environmental compliance obligations
The current standard version is ISO 14001:2015.
Environmental Management Plans
An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) is a central component of a broader Environmental Management System (EMS) and outlines and addresses the specifics involved in an organisations operations.
An EMP describes how an action, for example a construction site or operation, might impact the natural environment, and then sets out the commitments of managing those impacts by either avoiding or minimising.
